How do I create adherence (Habit Tracking) activities?

Updated May 12, 2026 Admin

Adherence activities help employees track daily habits — simple yes-or-no behaviors they want to maintain. Unlike loggable activities where employees record duration or details, adherence activities are about consistency: did you do it today or not?

What Are Adherence Activities?

Adherence activities are habit trackers. Employees check them off each day to build streaks and stay accountable.

Examples:

  • Avoid Sugar
  • Take Medication
  • Drink 8 Glasses of Water
  • No Smoking
  • Sleep Before 11 PM
  • Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Note: The Log Smoking adherence activity is always included by default for all companies. You do not need to create it — it is already there.

Creating an Adherence Activity

  1. Log in to the Vantage Fit Admin Dashboard.
  2. Go to Configuration in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Activities.
  4. Select Create Adherence Activity.
  5. Choose an icon from the available icon library.
  6. Enter the activity name (e.g., "Avoid Sugar").
  7. Save the activity.

That is it. The activity is now available to all employees in your company.

Where Employees See Adherence Activities

Adherence activities appear in a special location in the employee's app:

  1. Employee opens the Vantage Fit app.
  2. Taps the + (Plus) button.
  3. Scrolls to the More section.
  4. Sees all adherence activities listed there.

Adherence activities are always visible to employees, regardless of whether there is an active challenge. They are designed as standalone habit trackers that employees can use any time.

Using Adherence Activities in Challenges

While adherence activities live independently, you can also assign them as tasks within challenges.

For example:

  1. Create a Custom challenge focused on healthy eating.
  2. Add "Avoid Sugar" as an adherence task in a theme.
  3. Employees earn challenge points each day they check off the habit.

This creates a double benefit — the habit tracker persists beyond the challenge, but the challenge adds motivation through points.

Tip: Adherence tasks in challenges are great for building habits that outlast the challenge itself. Employees who track "Drink 8 Glasses of Water" for a 4-week challenge often continue afterward.

Adherence vs. Loggable Activities

Adherence Activities Loggable Activities
Tracking style Yes/No (did you do it today?) Duration, reps, or details
Purpose Habit formation and consistency Activity tracking
Where visible Plus menu → More section Log Activity section
Always visible Yes, independent of challenges Yes, independent of challenges
Challenge use Yes, as tasks Yes, as tasks
Example "Avoided Sugar" (check) "Office Yoga — 30 min"

Best Practices

  • Focus on daily habits. Adherence activities work best for things employees should do every day, not occasional activities.
  • Keep it positive or neutral. "Drink Water" works better than "Don't Get Dehydrated."
  • Limit the number. Too many adherence activities can overwhelm employees. Start with 3-5 that align with your wellness goals.
  • Pair with challenges. Use adherence tasks in challenges to kickstart habits, then let employees continue on their own.
