Can I run multiple challenges at the same time?

Updated May 19, 2026 Admin

Yes — there is no limit on how many challenges can run at the same time on your account. Employees can join and participate in multiple active challenges concurrently. Each challenge has its own leaderboard, point pool, and completion criteria.

How It Works

When two or more challenges are live:

  • Each challenge is independent. Scores, points, and rankings are tracked per challenge.
  • Employees can join all of them and see them in the Challenges tab, sorted by start date.
  • Activity automatically applies to every challenge whose tasks it matches. For example, if both a Step Challenge and an Active Minutes Challenge are running, a single walk contributes to both.
  • Leaderboards are computed separately. An employee ranked first on the Step Challenge can be ranked tenth on the Active Minutes Challenge.

The most effective wellness programs layer different challenge types throughout the year. Common combinations:

Pattern Example Why It Works
Always-on + short bursts A year-round Streak challenge for daily habit building, plus a 2-week Race every quarter Maintains baseline engagement while creating periodic excitement
Modality split Step challenge for the broad workforce + Yoga challenge for the wellness-curious + Lab Report Upload challenge for the annual checkup window Lets employees self-select into what motivates them
Team + individual Department-team Race + individual Journey challenge Different social dynamics; some employees thrive in teams, others compete with themselves
Seasonal layering A summer step challenge alongside a hydration-tracking water-log challenge Naturally reinforcing — more activity in summer makes hydration matter more

Practical Tips

  • Use clear naming. Employees seeing four challenges in their list should be able to tell them apart at a glance. Avoid generic names like "Fitness Challenge"; use "May Hydration Sprint" or "Q2 Step Marathon".
  • Use target-audience filters to reduce overload. Not every challenge needs to go to everyone. Filter by department, country, or other audience criteria so each employee sees only what's relevant to them. See How Do I Set a Target Audience for a Challenge?.
  • Stagger end dates. Ending multiple challenges on the same day creates leaderboard-results overload. Stagger by a week or more so wins land separately and remain visible.
  • Beware of point inflation. If multiple challenges all award generous points for similar activities, total spend rises fast. Use the Transaction Report to monitor — see What Reports Are Available?.

What Employees See

In the employee app, active challenges appear in the Ongoing tab. Each card shows the employee's progress, current rank, and remaining time for that specific challenge. Tapping a challenge opens its own dedicated leaderboard and task list.

For context on the employee side, see How Do I Join a Challenge? (Employee).
