Target audience filters let you control exactly which employees are eligible for a challenge. Instead of manually adding participants, you define criteria and let the system handle enrollment.
Setting Up Target Audience
- During challenge creation, look for the Target Audience section.
- Select one or more filters to narrow down your audience.
- Preview the estimated number of matching employees.
- Save and proceed with challenge creation.
Available Filters
You can combine any of the following filters to define your audience:
| Filter | Description |
|---|---|
| Country | Target employees in specific countries. |
| City | Target employees in specific cities. |
| Department | Target specific departments (Engineering, Sales, HR, etc.). |
| Gender | Target by gender. |
| Age Range | Set minimum and/or maximum age. |
| Language | Target employees by their preferred language. |
| Health Risk Code | Target based on health risk assessment (HRA) results. |
Tip: You can combine multiple filters. For example, target female employees aged 25-40 in the Engineering department in Bangalore. All filters are applied with AND logic — employees must match all selected criteria.
How Filtering Affects Challenge Visibility
When you apply any target audience filter, the challenge is automatically marked as Private.
- Private challenges are only visible to employees who match the filters.
- Employees outside the target audience will not see the challenge in their app.
- The challenge will not appear on the public challenge listing for non-matching employees.
Note: If you want a challenge visible to everyone, simply leave all target audience filters empty. The challenge will be marked as Public by default.
Auto-Enrollment Modes
After setting your filters, you choose how enrollment works:
Mode 1: Enroll Immediately
The system enrolls all matching employees right away when the challenge starts.
- Best for: Mandatory company-wide programs, time-sensitive challenges.
- Employees see the challenge in their app without needing to do anything.
Mode 2: Enroll When Active
The system waits until a matching employee becomes active in the app, then enrolls them.
- Best for: Rolling enrollment, catching employees who onboard after the challenge starts.
- An employee who installs the app mid-challenge and matches the filters will be auto-enrolled at that point.
Tip: "Enroll when active" is particularly useful for long-running challenges where new employees are joining the company throughout the challenge period.
Using Health Risk Codes
If your company has enabled the Health Risk Assessment (HRA), employees receive health risk codes based on their responses. You can use these codes to target specific wellness needs.
For example:
- Target employees with high stress risk for a mindfulness challenge.
- Target employees with low activity levels for a steps challenge.
Note: Health risk codes are only available if HRA is enabled for your company. Contact your Vantage Fit account manager to learn more.
Editing Target Audience After Creation
You can adjust target audience filters after creating a challenge, but be aware:
- Adding broader filters may enroll new participants mid-challenge.
- Narrowing filters does not automatically remove already-enrolled participants.
- Changes take effect going forward, not retroactively.
Best Practices
- Start broad, then narrow. If you are unsure about participation, begin with a wider audience and observe engagement before creating more targeted follow-up challenges.
- Use department filters for pilot programs. Roll out a new challenge format to one department first, gather feedback, then expand.
- Combine age and activity level for personalized wellness programs — a steps challenge for younger employees, a mindfulness challenge for high-stress groups.
- Check the preview count before saving. If the number seems too low or too high, adjust your filters.
