No. Your phone tracks your steps automatically using built-in sensors — Apple Health on iPhone and Google Fit on Android. You don't need to buy any additional device.
What Your Phone Tracks Automatically
| Data | iPhone | Android |
|---|---|---|
| Steps | Yes (via Apple Health) | Yes (via Google Fit) |
| Distance | Yes (using location sensors) | Yes (using location sensors) |
| Calories burned | Yes (estimated from steps + activities you track, log, or import) | Yes (estimated from steps + activities you track, log, or import) |
Your phone starts counting steps once the Android/iPhone step source is connected to Vantage Fit. Steps update automatically, and opening Vantage Fit refreshes the latest available count.
What a Wearable Adds
A fitness tracker or smartwatch gives you more accurate step counting (wrist-based is better than pocket-based) and additional data types that your phone can't track:
| Data | Phone Only | With Wearable |
|---|---|---|
| Step accuracy | Good | Better (wrist-based) |
| Heart rate | Camera-based (approximate) | Imported from wearable (not continuous in Vantage Fit) |
| Sleep tracking | Manual log only | Automatic |
| GPS workouts from wrist | No | Yes (Apple Watch, Garmin) |
Supported Wearables
Direct Integrations (connect within Vantage Fit)
| Device | Platform | How to Connect |

| Garmin (all models) | iOS + Android | Sign in within the app |
Automatic via Apple Health (iPhone)
| Device | How It Works |
|---|---|
| Apple Watch | Automatic — if paired with your iPhone and Apple Health is connected, Watch data flows into Vantage Fit with no extra setup |
| Amazfit, Xiaomi Mi Band, Huawei Watch | Works if their companion app writes data to Apple Health — Vantage Fit reads it automatically, no separate connection needed |
Android Device Options
| Device | How It Works |
|---|---|
| Samsung Watch | Connect from Device Management if you want it to be your selected step device |
| Google Fit | Default Android step source when no Fitbit or Garmin is connected |
| Amazfit, Xiaomi Mi Band, Huawei Watch | Works when supported by your Android step connection |
Searchable Device List (Android)
The Android app also shows these as branded device options: MI Band, PlayFit Band, Redmi Band, Realme Band, Honor Band, Galaxy Band, Noise Fit. You can also enter a custom device name.
Key point: Most modern fitness trackers and smartwatches work with Vantage Fit through a direct integration (Fitbit, Garmin), Apple Health on iPhone, or the Android Google Fit device flow.
One Device at a Time
Vantage Fit uses one primary device for step data to avoid double-counting:
- If you connect Fitbit → steps come from Fitbit only
- If you connect Garmin → steps come from Garmin
- If no Fitbit or Garmin connected → steps come from Apple Health on iPhone or Google Fit on Android
You can change your primary device anytime in Settings → Device Management.
Can I Use Vantage Fit Without a Phone?
Not currently — the mobile app is required for the full experience. The web app lets you view challenges and leaderboards but doesn't support health tracking or device connections.
