If your Garmin device was syncing fine but suddenly stopped, the most common cause is an expired connection. Here is how to fix it.
Why Garmin Stops Syncing
Garmin connections expire after about 60 days. When this happens, Vantage Fit stops receiving your data until you reconnect.
This is expected behavior and affects all apps that connect to Garmin, not just Vantage Fit.
How to Fix It
Step 1: Disconnect Garmin
- Open the Vantage Fit app.
- Go to Settings (gear icon).
- Tap Device Management.
- Find Garmin in your connected devices.
- Tap Disconnect.
Step 2: Reconnect Garmin
- Still in Device Management, tap Connect next to Garmin.
- You will be redirected to the Garmin Connect authorization page.
- Log in to your Garmin account (if prompted).
- Authorize Vantage Fit to access your data.
- You will be redirected back to the Vantage Fit app.
Step 3: Wait for Data Sync
After reconnecting:
- A manual sync is triggered automatically.
- The sync pulls the last 7 days of data from your Garmin.
- Steps, heart rate, and activity data from the past week will backfill.
- Going forward, data will sync automatically again.
Tip: Open the Garmin Connect app on your phone and make sure your Garmin device has synced its latest data to Garmin Connect first. Vantage Fit pulls data from Garmin Connect, not directly from your watch.
Preventing Future Sync Gaps
The Garmin connection expires after 60 days and needs to be refreshed. You can minimize disruption:
- Set a calendar reminder for every 50 days to reconnect Garmin proactively, before the connection expires.
- Check your step counts weekly. If you notice steps are not updating, reconnect right away to minimize data gaps.
Note: Only the last 7 days of data can be recovered after reconnecting. Steps from more than 7 days before reconnection are not backfilled.
Still Not Syncing After Reconnecting?
If data still does not sync after disconnecting and reconnecting:
- Check the Garmin Connect app. Make sure your Garmin device is syncing to the Garmin Connect app on your phone. If Garmin Connect is not receiving data, Vantage Fit will not either.
- Check internet connection. Connecting to Garmin requires an active internet connection.
- Try again later. Garmin's servers occasionally experience delays. Wait an hour and check again.
- Update both apps. Make sure both the Garmin Connect app and Vantage Fit app are updated to the latest versions.
