It depends on your platform, connected device, and phone battery settings. Vantage Fit updates your steps automatically where possible, and opening the app refreshes your latest count.
iPhone: Automatic Background Sync
On iPhone, Vantage Fit receives step updates from Apple Health even when the app is closed.
| What Happens | When |
|---|---|
| Apple Health collects your steps | Continuously (from phone sensors and/or Apple Watch) |
| Apple Health shares updates with Vantage Fit | Automatically |
| Vantage Fit processes new step data | Automatically, in the background |
| You open the app | Immediate sync — latest data appears |
You do not need to keep the app open. Your steps update throughout the day without any action from you.
Tip: If you have a Garmin connected, your steps update automatically after your device syncs to Garmin Connect, regardless of whether the app is open.
Android: Background Sync
Android phones use battery settings to save power. If Vantage Fit is restricted, step updates may be delayed while the app is closed.
| What Happens | When |
|---|---|
| Android step source records your steps | Continuously |
| Automatic update | When phone battery settings allow it |
| You open the app | Immediate sync — latest data appears |
| Manual sync | Plus (+) → Sync |
If your latest steps are not visible, open Vantage Fit once. This refreshes the current step count.
Note: Battery settings can affect how often apps update in the background.
Android Battery Settings
If steps only update when you open Vantage Fit, check your phone's battery settings:
Samsung
- Open Settings → Apps → Vantage Fit
- Tap Battery
- Select "Unrestricted" (instead of "Optimized" or "Restricted")
Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO
- Open Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Vantage Fit
- Tap Battery saver
- Select "No restrictions"
- Also: Go to Settings → Battery → Battery saver and add Vantage Fit to the exclusion list
Huawei / Honor
- Open Settings → Apps → Apps → Vantage Fit
- Tap Battery
- Disable "Power-intensive prompt"
- Enable "Launch manually" and toggle on all three: Auto-launch, Secondary launch, Run in background
OnePlus / Oppo / Realme
- Open Settings → Battery → Battery Optimization
- Find Vantage Fit
- Select "Don't optimize"
General Android (Stock)
- Open Settings → Apps → Vantage Fit → Battery
- Select "Unrestricted" or "Don't optimize"
Tip: If your steps only update when you open the app, setting Vantage Fit to Unrestricted is usually the most effective fix.
Garmin: Always Syncing
If you have a Garmin device connected, Vantage Fit updates after your device syncs to Garmin Connect. You do not need to keep Vantage Fit open.
Fitbit: Refresh on App Open
Fitbit steps sync when you open the Vantage Fit app. For the most current Fitbit step count, open Vantage Fit.
